Toy maker Mattel has announced it will release a new hybrid video game system this fall. The system will allow players to scan cards that will enhance their powers in the game.

Reuters - Mattel Inc. , the No. 1 U.S. toy maker, on Monday reported a second-quarter profit, compared with a loss a year earlier, when it was hurt by a tax expense.

Some say Barbie's heyday is over. Sales of the Mattel toy--on the market for almost 50 years--have been declining over the past five years and has reportedly been in the red for 17 of its last 20 quarters.

Cartoon Network grants worldwide licensing rights to Mattel Inc. to produce toys and puzzles based on its shows. The agreement gives the world's largest toy maker rights to produce Cartoon Network branded products.
